Living in a False Sense of Security.
Are you SURE your system and data are protected from intruders?
There have been over 390 major data breaches in the US already this year, according to a report released by Identity Theft Resource Center. I am sure that every one of these companies were convinced that their systems, firewalls and protocols would Protect them from intruders. Some of the most notable breaches were Target, UPS, EBAY, Michaels, Montana Dept of Human Services, Variable Annuity Life Insurance, St Joseph Health System, to mention just a few.
Some reasons for data breaches reported by these companies were weak log-in credentials, hidden malware attachments to regular server updates, former employees, unintentional open server ports, sophisticated intrusion algorithms. Intrusion resistance is a modern-day moving target! It has become imperative that all businesses pay attention to this ever-growing threat. It has become essential that every business incorporate professional focused providers who can adapt and change as the threats change. It is also imperative that their networks and systems meet the Federal MINIMUM standards spelled out by the Security Standards Council which is overseen by the Federal government.
If these well-staffed IT departments couldn’t stop or quickly discover intrusion, is your company living under a false assumption as well? What are you doing to protect and detect intrusion attempts?
